DK SANDERS ELECTRICAL SERVICES

Image NOTIFICATION TO BUILDING CONTROL and Part ‘P’
Since January 2005, all fixed electrical installation work become a ‘controlled service’ under the Building Regulations (known as Part P). It will have to be notified, before work commences, to the Building Control office of the relevant Local Authority, in order that they may inspect the work. This applies to all work carried out, professionally or as DIY,

The Local Authority Building Control (LABC) is charging £275 for the inspection which will take place during and after the work has been completed.

Only if the work is carried out by an Electrician who is registered as a Fully Approved Part P Installer, will he be able to issue a certificate of compliance on completion of the work which he will send to the relevant Local Authority Building Control office, and the householder. This avoids the need for notification to and inspection by Building Control.

David Sanders is a Fully Approved Part P Installer and is registered with the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT).

Image The TrustMark initiative introduced in January 2006, brings together Government, the building industry and consumer bodies to stamp out rogue traders. Only trade associations and certification bodies that comply with the set of Government endorsed standards can award the TrustMark to tradesmen.

When a firm displays the TrustMark logo it signifies that:

• An approved scheme operator has carried out basic checks on the firm’s technical competence, trading record and credit worthiness.
• The firm has signed up to an appropriate code of practice that includes mandatory insurance, good Health and Safety practices and proper dealing with customers.
• Its quality of work, trading practices and customer satisfaction are checked and monitored.
• The firm will make sure you are aware of any building control issues and, in many cases, may be able to provide you with a certification of compliance that means you don’t need to involve building control.
• If you have a problem or disagreement with a registered firm, the approved scheme operator will have a clear and user-friendly complaints procedure to help resolve the issue.
• If the firm does not provide insurance cover automatically you will have the option to buy a warranty covering the possibility of it going out of business.

In return, you are expected to deal fairly with the firm, agree a fair price for decent work, and pay promptly on satisfactory completion.

DK Sanders Electrical Services has been awarded the TrustMark and is a scheme member.
